stubby (“we”, “us”) runs stubby, a community deals site for Australia. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It's written to actually describe what this app does, not generic boilerplate, but it's not a substitute for legal advice, and hasn't been reviewed by a solicitor.
What we collect
- Account details: the email and password you sign up with (or your Google account details, if you use Google sign-in), and the username and display name you choose.
- Profile info you add: your bio, avatar, and home suburb, if you set them.
- Content you post: deals, comments, votes, bookmarks, and deal reports you submit are stored against your account.
- Business registration details: if you register a business, we collect the business name, ABN, website, and description. The ABN is checked against the Australian Business Register's public ABN Lookup service to confirm it's a real, active registration.
- Your selected suburb: stored in a browser cookie so the deal feed can filter to your area. You don't need an account for this; it works for anyone browsing the site.
- Basic usage analytics: via Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights, which is cookieless: it doesn't track you individually or across other sites. We see aggregate data like page views and load performance, not who you are.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data. We don't run third-party ad-tracking or cross-site advertising cookies. We don't share your email or account details with the businesses or merchants whose deals appear on the site.
How we use it
- To run the site: authenticate you, show you a suburb-filtered feed, and let you vote, comment, bookmark, and post deals.
- To send account emails: signup confirmation and password reset, via Supabase Auth.
- To moderate content: reviewing reported deals, and community downvotes can automatically hide a deal that gets enough of them.
- To verify businesses before they can post official deals.
Where your data lives
Our database and authentication run on Supabase, hosted in Australia (Sydney, ap-southeast-2). The site itself is hosted on Vercel. Both are standard infrastructure providers acting on our instructions. They don't use your data for their own purposes.
Deals sourced from elsewhere
Some deals on stubby are imported from public RSS feeds of other deals communities (currently OzBargain and TopBargains), clearly labelled with their source on each deal. That import process only touches public deal listings; it has nothing to do with your personal data.
Your choices
- Update your profile, suburb, or bio any time from your account.
- Delete your account and associated content by contacting us (below). We'll remove your personal details; some content like comments may be retained in an anonymised form if needed to keep discussion threads coherent.
- Clear your suburb cookie any time by clearing your browser's site data. No account needed.
Children
stubby isn't directed at children. You need to be at least 16 years old to create an account.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and change the date at the top.
